Pulse People – Promise Oti-Okardie

Promise Oti-Okardie is a Digital Account Manager at Pulse Nigeria, providing ongoing brand and social media support and management to some of Pulse’s partners and clients. In this interview, she shares her Pulse story, the exciting brands she works with, and her interests outside of work.

Let’s talk about your background.

I studied English at Covenant University. I love to read and write fiction so that was a course I felt really comfortable with. Another reason I chose it was because didn’t want to encounter Maths after secondary school 😅 but thankfully I’ve outgrown that fear now.

I started out my career as a social media manager/community manager, working behind the scenes to help brands achieve their goals on social media. However, I needed a new challenge to help me grow and when the opportunity came, I took it and became an account manager.

Tell me about getting into Pulse.

I joined Pulse about 2 years ago. Even though I was very confident in my ability to do the job, I was worried that my prior experience being in social media management and not a client-facing role might be a problem. However, I was glad that my interviewers took a chance on me and I’m pleased that I’ve also been able to make them proud.

What’s your current role at Pulse?

I currently work as an Account Manager in the AM & Ops team. Basically, I’m like a project manager that manages all aspects of a project from onboarding to completion. Through my role, I’ve been involved with social media content creation, video (commercials, vox pop), social Wochit videos as well as website creation.

So tell me a little bit more about the brands you manage.

So far, I’ve worked with brands like Nike, ALX Africa, Spotify, Anker Nigeria, to name a few. Of all the projects I’ve worked on for these brands, I would say the most exciting was the Nike World Cup campaign which was created to show support for the Super Falcons in the Women’s World Cup that happened this year. The Super Falcons didn’t win but nevertheless, it was a memorable and heartwarming experience.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day involves giving status updates on the brands I manage. I have brainstorm sessions with team members if a campaign is coming up, meet with clients when necessary, liaise with internal teams to make sure deliverables are met, and ensure that my clients are satisfied with the outcome of projects we have worked on.

How do you draw inspiration when work gets too much?

I like to study brands whose content resonates with me and I draw inspiration from them. This makes work easier.

How do you unwind, and what other things are you involved/interested in apart from Pulse?

I love creating content, mostly food (because I’m a foodie) and lifestyle content. I love to go out to restaurants and events and create relevant content like food reviews and recommendations on places to visit. You can check out my Instagram @ayeba_priye to see what I’m up to😊
